The Rt. Honourable Aniedi King Scholarship Foundation

The main reason for instituting this Scholarship for his constituency, Rt. Hon. King said, was the need to establish something that has mass appeal and would outlast him. Something with immense and immeasurable benefit to the people who place their collective trust and confidence in voting him to power. It was a way of giving back to what he took out of the constituency.

Complimentarily, he has also envisaged that the scholarship program has uncontroversial potential to exist, co-exist and would reproduce itself over a long period of time. Because, this program is educational in content and form, the essence of the program is to encourage excellence in academics by assisting indigent students of his constituency to compete academically and develop intellectually.

The Scholarship Package

The scholarship scheme is targeted at indigene students of Tertiary Institutions and Secondary Schools fro the Local Government Areas constituting Etinan Federal Constituency – Etinan, Nsit Ibom and Nsit Ubium LGAs. The scheme covers at least three (3) students in Tertiary from each of the 31 wards of the 3 Local Government Areas. On the whole, a minimum of 62 students are to benefit for the award. The value of the scholarship award was tagged at N20,000.00 for each qualified student per session for Tertiary institutions and N10,000.00 for each qualified student for secondary school. The timeline for the Committee’s work was two months.

Method of selection of Candidates

The Committee had its inaugural meeting on September 15, 2007 at Plot 41 B-line, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo,  the committee chairman’s residence. The venue was adopted as the official meeting place. At the inaugural meeting it was resolved by the committee that the scheme be focused on the rural communities, parents of the beneficiaries must be resident in the state and known to contribute to the development of the affected communities.

In the secondary school category, schools in the Local Government Area were contacted for recommendation of students of high academic performance to participate in the competitive screening process. For applicants in the category of tertiary institutions, it was mandatory that they possess high academic records (GPAs) devoid of re-sits. The scholarship form was mandatorily endorsed by the Heads of Departments and any other staff on the institution on the cadre of Academic adviser or Exams officer.
